Sanima Hydropower Ltd., was established in the year 1999 with the primary objective of developing hydro-energy projects in Nepal.

The company developed and commissioned Sunkoshi Small Hydropower Plant (2.6 MW) in the year 2005. After successful commission of Sunkoshi Plant, the need of strong engineering team was realized which could provide engineering consulting services to the in-house projects of Sanima and at the same time provide such services to the external clients.

As a result, Sanima Hydro and Engineering Pvt. Ltd (SHEPL) - a private sector company, was established in the year 2005 AD as a sister organization of Sanima Hydropower Ltd. (SHL).
